The heat was on, wth temperatures in the high 80's, it was going to be a tough day out for IMTC athletes, Ricky Dewhurst and Joe Duckworth.
This relatively new event which is based in the beautiful Cumbrian market town of Keswick in the lake district, is fast becoming a "must do" on lots of triathletes bucket lists.
The swim took place in the crystal clear waters of Derwentwater and the bike route took the triathletes up the west coast of Cumbria where they got to experience a side of the lakes often unvisited by tourists. On the run stage athletes ran through beautiful countryside with stunning views of Skiddaw and with multiple laps going through Keswick town centre it was an ideal spot for family and friends to show their support as our athletes passes them by.
This was Rickys first attempt at a long distance triathlon and my word did he do well! Coming in with a 1:26.39 Swim, T1 of 2:45, Bike of 5:46.17, T2 of 2.58 and a marathon of 4:20.58 to give a total time of 11hrs, 39mins, 37secs and coming 54th out of 272 finishers. Brilliant result Ricky
Old hand Joe Duckworth had the race of his life! Joe had been showing good form all year and a training boost on the IMTC Majorca training camp literally ignited the touch paper.
Joe came 1st overall and beat the 2nd place triathlete by over 31mins and the only athlete to get under 5hrs for the bike. Turning in a 1:12.16 Swim, T1 of 2.11, Bike of 4:53.53, T2 of 1.56 and a marathon run of 3:05.25 to give a total time of just 9hrs, 15mins, .41secs. A very well deserved win and a credit to Joes's commitment and dedication to his training regime.
